Hung out to Dry

9 Aug

Because the weather outside has settled itself into a terribly average, frighteningly even, medium weight rainfall, I figured the finds tonight had to be something fun and sunny. So tonight, I’m talking laundry. Not the sit at home all day switching loads every hour to The Young and the Restless laundry, but the relaxing in the summer sun, hanging on the line, lemonade sipping old fashioned laundry time.

Clothespins, Set of 10 Rainbow Colored, Hand Dyed by PigCastle

Now, if we are going to do laundry the old fashioned way, and hang up our unmentionables for everyone in the neighborhood to see, we should at least make sure they are hanging in style. Luckily, PigCastle offers these very fun, very chic hand dyed clothespins for just that! Everyone will be so impressed with your rainbows and gradients on your clothesline, they won’t even notice your teddy bear panties!

Of course, colorful clothespins have an array of uses, though laundry rainbows is probably my favourite. Just picture them against white sheets. (especially if you have a nice white farmhouse as a backdrop!) Ah, lovely!

Wash Day Apron with Clothespins by DollClothesbyJannie

I have to say I am greatly impressed by a lot of the doll clothes and accessories I see on Etsy. I was never into dolls myself, so I don’t look through them often, but man. Dolls pretty much have everything we have– and more!  DollClothesbyJannie has this little dolly doing laundry– and she’s got it right! This little sweetie has everything a big person would need. Amazing!

Now if only I could get this doll to do my laundry too.

Wooden Outdoor Folding Chair for Garden, Deck and Patio - recycled cedar (Beach Blue) by laughingcreekprod

After all that washing, hanging and folding, we’re going to want to sit down, enjoy a glass of lemonade, and soak up the sun. These awesome chairs from laughingcreekprod are exactly what I would want on my lawn on a day like that. They are so simple, so classic, and so fun. The subtle curve in the seat in the back definitely give off an aura of comfort and the fact that they fold for easy storage/season change is awesome.

So sit back and look at your white sheets against your laundry rainbow and remember: Lemonade is delicious.

How much wood?

29 Jul

Good evening! Today’s finds showcase some good picks using wood as the main material. Mmmm I can smell the sweet sawdust.

Custom Cajon Box Drum Beat Box by DeadTreeDesign

I just love these. A friend of mine has one and all the sets he does with Adam, he does on his cajon. They aren’t widely used here, so he definitely gets a lot of ‘wow’ and ‘what is that thing?’

I’m so excited to have found this on Etsy because they really are perfect for any drummer who simply can’t lug their whole kit with them. A cajon has all sorts of sounds in it and what’s really awesome is that it’s simply the way the wood hits wood or how dense the area you’re banging on it. I don’t know much about drumming (despite having about one hundred drummers in my life) but I do know t

hat this is a must-have for anyone who likes to just whip it out (not like that) and play.

Way to kick off the finds, DeadTreeDesign!

Next, something I never imagined to exist. Ever.

GRANNY KNOT wood veneer pendant light by transfigure

Knotted wood. I know that in retrospect, this being surprising to me probably makes it seem like I’ve been living under a rock, but it is true. I was surprised.

A really great piece of art, to me, is not something that you look at and say: “Oh my gosh that is an exact replica of George Washington!” That, my friend, is simply skill. A great piece has many components, and one of them is the element of surprise.

Structurally this piece is predictable, but that is hardly an issue when the very spirit of the piece is so surprising. When I think of wood, I think of something solid, strong, and dependable (there’s a reason people are impressed with solid oak furniture). Seeing wood knotted, as if a piece of ribbon, is almost shocking. It’s wood. It’s not supposed to bend like that.

I think that what transfigure is doing is awesome and has fed my lighting craving for the night. Thank you!

Harry Potter Inspired - Wood Wand - Cocobolo & Katalox by CustomWoodChuck

So I finally accepted the fact that I am almost twenty-two years old and my Hogwarts letter isn’t coming. (It only took over ten years to be okay with it) Thanks to CustomWoodChuck though, I can at least do some killer cosplay with their wands of awesome!

In all seriousness (though I feel like being serious is just such a downer in blogland) there is a wood turner in my village and their work (I really don’t know if they are a he or a she. I never see them) is incredible. Just their front porch alone has me drooling.

So coming across a find with woodturning and Harry Potter? This is why I started this blog.
